What it shows

A degree certificate proves that you completed a qualification, at what level and when. Skilled routes use it to test education requirements; visitor routes use it as background to your career.

Strong vs. weak

Strong

The final certificate, showing your name, the award, the institution and the date
Accompanied by transcripts where the route asks for them
With an official recognition or equivalency result when the degree is foreign

Weak

A provisional letter when the final certificate exists
A name that differs from your passport with no linking document
A foreign degree with no recognition where the route requires it

How to prepare it

Scan the original in colour, both sides if anything is printed on the back
Add a certified translation if it is not in an accepted language
Check whether the route needs a recognition or credential assessment and start it early, as it can take weeks

Common mistake

Assuming a foreign degree is accepted as it stands. Several routes count it only after a formal recognition or assessment.
