Evidence that supports this criterion

Official Definition

Transcripts and certificates from earlier studies, which support the genuine student statement: the course should be a sensible next step.

What Officers Look For

Earlier studies are not a separate test, but they support your genuine student statement. A transcript, diploma or degree certificate shows the institution, programme, dates and results, and lets the officer see how the Australian course follows from what you have already studied.

If the course changes your field, or there is a gap in your studies, the statement should explain it, and the transcripts then back up what you wrote.

Evidence Strength

Strong Evidence

Official transcripts and certificates naming the institution, programme, dates and results
Earlier studies that lead naturally to the Australian course
A name that matches the passport
A gap or change of field explained in the statement and backed by the records

Weak Evidence

Unofficial or partial records
Records with no dates or results
A course that does not follow from earlier studies and is not explained
A gap in studies with no explanation

Common Refusal / Processing Triggers

Common Problems

A course that does not fit your study history, with no explanation in the statement.
A gap in studies that is not explained.
Partial or unreadable records.
Names that differ from the passport.

Tips for Strengthening Your Evidence

Pro Tips

Gather transcripts and certificates for each earlier course before you write the statement.
Refer to them in your answers, so the documents and the statement support each other.
Explain a change of field or a gap in your own words.

Relevant Document Types

Typical uploads: transcripts, diplomas and degree certificates from earlier studies.
