What This Criterion Requires

Under the Exceptional Talent track, you must satisfy the endorsing body that you have been recognised by others as a leading talent in the digital technology field in the last 5 years (GOV.UK). You must also show proven technical expertise with the latest technologies, or proven commercial, investment or product expertise in building digital products. At least 2 of your up to 10 evidence documents must go to this criterion. This is the higher-threshold track, for leaders rather than potential leaders.

The key word is recognised: the claim must be evidenced by others — the field, the market, independent experts — not asserted by you or your employer alone.

What Assessors Look For

Leadership scope — senior roles (CTO, VP Engineering, founder, principal/distinguished engineer) with mandates that shaped products, research direction, or organisations
External recognition — major awards, flagship conference keynotes, independent media profiles, adoption metrics for public products
Sustained impact — a multi-year arc of achievement, not a single spike
Independent validation — letters from recognised leaders who know your work through public artefacts or industry interaction, not only close colleagues
