What it shows

An award certificate proves that you received a prize. What decides its weight is the award itself: who gives it, who can compete, and how winners are chosen.

Strong

A national or international award for excellence in your field
Published selection criteria and a judging panel of recognised experts
Evidence of how many people competed and how few won

Weak

Internal company awards
Student prizes and scholarships, for routes that look for professional recognition
Awards anyone can buy or nominate themselves for

How to prepare it

Provide the certificate or the official announcement
Add the award's rules, the judges and past winners from the organiser's site
Add press coverage of the award where it exists

Common mistake

Filing the certificate alone. Without evidence of the award's standing, the officer cannot tell it from a routine prize.
