What This Criterion Requires

Under the Exceptional Promise track, you must show you have been recognised by others as a potential talent in the digital technology field in the last 5 years, and that you are at an early stage in your career (GOV.UK). GOV.UK says Promise applicants are likely to have less than 5 years of experience in technology, though they may have had a longer career in another type of work. At least 2 of your up to 10 evidence documents must go to this criterion.

The standard is not "junior but good." It requires markers that separate you from typical high performers at a similar career stage: rapid advancement, standout artefacts with measurable reach, or independent recognition disproportionate to your years of experience.

What Assessors Look For

• An acceleration curve — fast progression to senior IC or lead roles, ownership of critical systems early
• Standout artefacts — open-source projects, publications, or shipped products with measurable uptake
• Selective recognition — competitive programme participation, awards, invitations that most peers do not receive
• Credible forward-looking validation — senior industry figures explaining why you are on a trajectory toward leadership, with specifics
