Skilled Work Experience

NOC TEER 0–3 experience proven with duty-rich employer letters

What This Criterion Requires

Eligible FSW experience is skilled work under the National Occupational Classification (NOC) TEER 0, 1, 2, or 3. Experience must be paid and meet program duration rules (commonly at least one year of continuous full-time or equivalent part-time skilled work). Job duties must substantially match the lead statement and main duties of the claimed NOC.

What Officers Look For

  • Correct 6-digit NOC for the work actually performed
  • Employer letters with title, dates, hours/week, salary, and detailed duties
  • Continuity and credibility of timelines
  • Corroboration from pay or tax records when letters are thin

Evidence Strength

Strong Evidence
  • Letterhead reference letters listing hours, pay, dates, and NOC-aligned duties
  • One letter per employer/role with supervisor or HR contact details

Pay stubs, contracts, or tax forms that corroborate tenure and pay
  • Clear promotion timelines when titles changed

    • Letters that only praise performance without duties
    • Missing weekly hours ('full-time' alone is not enough)
    • Duties copied from the NOC website but unrelated to real work
    • Self-written letters with no company authentication

    Common Refusal / ADR Triggers

    Common Problems

    • NOC chosen by job title instead of duties
    • Letters missing salary, hours, or signatory contact information
    • Overlapping jobs with impossible hour totals
    • Experience gained in ways IRCC may exclude (certain unpaid or full-time study situations — check current rules)

    Tips for Strengthening Your Evidence

    Pro Tips

    • Write a duty list from your real work first, then find the NOC that fits — not the reverse.
    • Ask HR for letters while you still have access to managers and letterhead.
    • If an employer refuses a letter, prepare a letter of explanation plus contracts, payslips, and tax evidence.
    • Keep dates identical across profile, letters, and forms — small mismatches trigger reviews.

    Relevant Document Types

Employer reference letters, employment contracts, pay stubs, and tax documents.
