Why This Document Matters

In Express Entry, the employer reference letter is how officers verify that your CRS work-experience points are real and skilled. Community reports and practitioner write-ups consistently flag weak letters — missing hours, salary, or duties — as a leading cause of post-ITA document requests and refusals.

This is not a US-style recommendation letter about extraordinary ability. It is an employment verification letter with mandatory facts.

Required Elements

A compliant letter should include:

1. Company letterhead with address and contact details
2. Your job title and employment dates (split promotions)
3. Hours worked per week (do not write only “full-time”)
4. Salary/wage and benefits where appropriate
5. Detailed main duties aligned with your NOC
6. Signatory name, title, signature, and contact information
