What it shows

An invitation letter comes from the person or organisation you will visit. It explains the relationship, the purpose and dates of the visit, and what the host will provide. It supports your stated purpose; it does not replace your own ties and funds.

Strong vs. weak

Strong

Names both sides, the relationship, the exact dates and the address of the stay
Says plainly who pays for travel, accommodation and daily costs
Comes with the host's ID or residence document, and for a business visit is on company letterhead

Weak

A two-line note with no dates or address
Promises of support with no evidence the host can provide it
A letter that contradicts your own form or itinerary

How to prepare it

Ask the host to sign and date it and to add their contact details
Attach proof of the host's status (passport, residence permit or company registration)
For business visits, state the meetings or event and that you will not take up local employment

Common mistake

Treating the invitation as a guarantee. Officers still judge your own job, funds and reasons to return.
