Officers need a legible biodata page showing your full name, nationality, passport number, and issue/expiry dates. As a general rule the passport should remain valid at least six months beyond your intended stay, subject to country-specific agreements. Names on the passport, DS-160, and supporting letters should match. Prior U.S. visas (in the current or previous passport) are useful context when relevant.
Damaged passports, mismatched spellings, or unclear scans create processing problems and should be fixed before the interview.
