Educational only — not legal advice.

What it shows

A language test result proves your ability in each skill: reading, writing, listening and speaking. Points-based and skilled routes accept only named tests, taken within a set period.

Strong vs. weak

Strong

A test on the route's approved list, in the correct version of the test
Every skill at or above the required level
A result still valid on the day you apply

Weak

A test or version the route does not accept
One skill below the minimum, even if the average is high
An expired result

How to prepare it

Check the approved tests and the validity period on the official site before you book
Enter the scores exactly as printed on the report
Keep the reference number, since authorities verify results with the test provider

Common mistake

Taking the wrong version of a test. Some routes accept only the general or only the academic version.
