Showing sufficient means of subsistence for the stay and return
Evidence that the applicant has sufficient means of subsistence for the duration of the intended stay and for the return to the country of origin or transit to a third country, without recourse to public funds.
Officers assess whether your finances plausibly cover accommodation, living costs, and return travel for the stated length and destinations. Recent bank statements (often 3–6 months) showing stable balances are stronger than a single-day snapshot. Member states publish reference amounts per day, though the overall assessment also weighs accommodation type and trip length. If someone else sponsors the trip, provide a sponsorship letter or formal declaration of support plus the sponsor's own financial evidence.
Funds should be proportionate to the itinerary — a long multi-country trip with thin balances looks inconsistent.
