Educational Credential Assessment (ECA)

Why This Document Matters

For foreign education, an ECA from an IRCC-designated organization is what makes the credential count in Express Entry. Without it, education points generally do not apply — regardless of the school's reputation abroad.

How to Prepare

1. Choose a designated organization appropriate for your credential type
2. Submit diplomas/transcripts exactly as the organization requires (often sealed/official)
3. Wait for the report stating Canadian equivalency
4. Enter that equivalency level in your Express Entry profile — not a higher aspirational level
5. Keep the report valid through application milestones
