What it shows

Membership proof shows that you belong to an association in your field. It counts when the association admits members for outstanding achievement, as judged by recognised experts.

Strong vs. weak

Strong

A membership grade that requires nomination and review by experts
The association's bylaws showing the admission standard
A certificate or letter confirming your grade and date of admission

Weak

Memberships open to anyone who pays a fee
Memberships based only on a degree or years of experience
A card with no evidence of how members are chosen

How to prepare it

Provide the certificate and the exact section of the bylaws on admission
Show who decides admission and what they judge
Explain the grade if the body has several levels

Common mistake

Listing ordinary professional memberships. Paying dues is not an achievement-based admission.
